I am a member of the physics faculty at Grand Valley State University. I earned a Ph.D. in astrophysics from the University of Toledo in 1993 with a study aimed at determining the physical and optical nature of interstellar dust grains. I’ve published articles in The Astrophysical Journal and have been supported by grants from NASA. My professional interests include astronomy (although more casually than in the past) and medical physics.
A link to my GVSU webpage is here.
I also write a weekly column about back yard astronomy for the Grand Haven Tribune.
Some articles prior to the ones archived here are available at www.wunderground.com/blog/marsipan/show.html.
What I write here is often tailored to viewing from West Michigan.
